The possibilities inherent in the American nation are being squandered, however, by the arrogance of power. Those in power regard the free and vital political expression of the vast majority of people as a threat to their authority. Any real movement for a change in the political, social and economic order is seen as a threat to the status quo. The members of Congress have themselves been corrupted by both power and the corporate interests that they have become dependent upon. This well researched book examines the myths about America and its moral position in the world. The myths enumerated include the myth of equal justice and the myth of America as the so-called “world policeman.” The premise of this work is that a belief in these myths distorts the truth and impedes real social progress. Alternatives are suggested that are more in keeping with a truly free and democratic society. Bronx Memories represents the author’s own personal journey as a young boy. Nathaniel Hastings is a kind of modern day odyssey, in which the protagonist navigates through life from very bizarre beginnings. The stories, Bradley Stimpson and Marie, The Strange Diaries of Jeremy Flood and Benjamin’s Magic Bullet take place in some future time and explore various aspects of contemporary human society. Lastly, No Time for Retribution is a work that examines the modern world as seen through the eyes of a person dealing with madness. The following excerpt taken from Bradley Stimpson and Marie is a brief sampling of what this body of work contains: "As Boston awoke in the distance, Bradley could smell its particular morning aroma: a blend of the natural stirring of the sun’s heat and that particular mix of toxins emanating from the livelihood of internal combustion engines. The din that awakened him was remarkable in its punctuality as the rush hour shook the freeway overpass that served as his shelter. "Bradley was beholding to the miracle of cardboard that served in various ways as his chest of drawers, dinner table and as a remarkable source of radiant heat. Bradley maintained a substantial hold on reality by creating it over and over again through his rituals. These rituals revolved around what he considered to be practical deities: sun, wind, trees and fire. He began and ended each day with remonstrations to the sun. As soon as his eyes opened, Bradley would locate the sun, kneel before it, lower his head and slowly raise it until a rush of white light filled his vision. He maintained this position until hunger gripped his senses." Purchase If you wish to purchase this book, enter the quanitity and click the Buy Now button. Thank you. He is catapulted from village life in a small town on the Adriatic to the frenetic pace and lifestyle that comes with living in New York. His innate sense of adventure together with his burgeoning loneliness leads him on a path that he would come to regret. Carmelo is exposed to darker elements of his psyche that he was previously unaware of, especially his more violent nature. The inevitable consequences of his behavior bring him to a precipice that could result in his destruction. It is essentially the story of personal redemption. The following is brief sampling of this novel: “He was amazed at the size of the crowds that inundated the sidewalks and streets with their forward and relentless motion. Everything seemed to be moving so fast. He was surrounded by strangers and intimidated by their energy and indifference; he felt small and unimportant. It felt strangely odd not to be noticed or recognized, and to be so completely surrounded by people. His senses were assaulted by the noise and confusion; he was repelled by the dirt and ugliness. “Along with these feelings, came an acute sense of excitement and adventure that more than compensated for any fear or misgivings. Everything was new to him. All his senses were invaded by wholly new sights, sounds and smells. It was as if he had been born again into a completely alien world. He felt the extraordinary energy of his new surroundings; it was an intoxicating and highly infectious energy that is the life blood of New York. He was amazed by the diversity of peoples and the different cultures they represented. It seemed like all races and nationalities had representatives on those teeming sidewalks. He watched intently the behavior of New Yorkers. They were so oblivious of others; they seemed to say and do whatever they pleased. which was completely new to him. “While he found himself fascinated by the perpetual human drama that unfolded on New York’s streets, his attention could not help but be drawn to the monumental buildings that were on both sides of him. He was standing in a fabulous concrete valley with precipitous cliffs of steel and glass on both sides. Nothing could have prepared him for such a sight or the emotions that they evoked.” Video of Reading Suprising Latitude of Fate Purchase If you wish to purchase this book, enter the quanitity and click the Buy Now button. It was about dusk when she had finally finished. She put her brush down and gave out an audible sigh. She felt that she and that painting had somehow magically united with God, or at least her idea of creation. Her spirit had gone beyond the limits of her body, or of gravity for that matter, and now seemed to reside in a very separate and special place. She felt luminous like the star that gives life to its planet. She felt vaporous like the moon and wild like the wind. She was enveloped by a panoply of glorious emotions and inundated by the kind of understanding she imagined the Buddha must have felt. She felt great humility and arrogance at the same time. Her entire life and its meaning seemed lucid and brilliant like a finely shaped crystal.
